Hebrews 13:5

God’s promise to never abandon us has to be one of the most encouraging verses in Scripture. God refuses to walk out on us and is forever committed to being our traveling companion. Grab hold of these words in the midst of a spiritual drought and you will find comfort, a greater level of contentment and an amazing sense of peace. Yet, if you read the verses before and after, you will clearly see that His promise to never desert is meant for far more than a few feel-good moments of meditation.

Absolutely no one makes it through life without experiencing defeat. It is impossible to have a perfect record in every aspect of your life. Nevertheless, we have a tendency to take defeat personally--“If I lose, then I am a loser!” When a Christian falls prey to a defeatist mindset, it quickly becomes a powerful tool in the hand of the Enemy.

Though often comforted by God’s manifold promises, I quickly become disillusioned when my experience and God’s unfulfilled promises collide. Years pass and there is no deliverance. Burdens increase, needs arise, and God doesn’t provide. So, I wonder if God is simply tantalizing me with promises He has no intention of fulfilling. Another promise made, another promise broken--but this time it was God who broke my heart.
Peter reminds us that God is not a promise breaker. He is a promise keeper! He never takes His promises lightly and always keeps His word. However, the Promise Keeper is also patient. And because He is patient, He will postpone His promises for a higher and holier cause.

God has appointed and commissioned an untold number of messenger-angels to care for you. These heavenly watchmen have the sole responsibility of treating you like God’s treasured possession. They watch, protect and guard you throughout your life. The accompany you throughout the course of your life.
